Oh hello there!

Pre-diagnosis Amanda surfin' the subway!

My name is Amanda and I am 30 years old. Most people describe me as a cheerful, bubbly, optimistic person and I have a tendency to agree with that sentiment. I believe that life is beautiful and that everyone you meet is meant to be in your life at that moment in that way for a reason. So, I try to be as pleasant and optimistic as possible — reciprocity/Golden Rule?

In April 2018, at the age of 26, I was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia and Small Lymphocytic Lymphoma making me a bit of an anomaly (should I change my name to Anna Molly?). People diagnosed with CLL/SLL are typically 50 years old or older and it is rare for someone under the age of 35 to be diagnosed.

I started this blog shortly after as a way of “screaming my feelings into the ether” — basically a way for me to talk about my diagnosis and vent about what is going on in my life around it. Ultimately, I wanted to write it in case there were other people, like myself, who are struggling with a rare cancer to know that they’re not alone and that there is someone out there (that’s me!) willing to listen and talk it out.

Follow me, everything is alright…
